Post spacing

Fence Post Spacing Calculator & Estimating Software

Post spacing looks simple until a 47-foot run leaves a two-foot leftover panel. Post spacing normalization redistributes posts so every bay is intentional and the install looks uniform.

FenceIQ applies your spacing rules during fence estimating and material takeoff, so reps do not invent short sections on every yard.

What it does

Normalize spacing instead of leftover stubs

Given a run length and a target spacing (for example 8 feet), FenceIQ calculates how many posts and panels fit, then adjusts bay widths within your allowed range so you avoid awkward short sections at the end of a line.

That keeps vinyl and wood panel layouts clean, reduces field cuts, and makes the proposal match what the crew will actually build.

  • ✓Respect max and min bay widths for your fence system
  • ✓Account for corners, ends, and gate openings as hard breaks
  • ✓Feed normalized bays into the material list and proposal drawings
Example

A 47-foot run at 8-foot target spacing

Without normalization vs with FenceIQ
Target spacing: 8 ft
Run length: 47 ft

Naive math: 47 / 8 = 5.875 → five full 8-ft bays + a 7-ft leftover
(or worse: a tiny stub bay that looks unfinished)

Normalized: redistribute into even bays within your allowed range
(for example six bays near 7.8 ft) so every section looks intentional.
